Matthew 1:5

Jan 07, 2022

“Salmon was the father of Boaz

(Whose mother was Rahab).”

Who is Rahab?

We first meet Rahab in Joshua 2.

She is referred to as a prostitute.

She takes in two spies and helps hide them.

Joshua sent them to scope out land on the other side of the Jordan River.

The Promised Land. (Joshua 1:3-4)

The land where Jesus would later be born.

A prostitute.

Professes her faith in God. (Joshua 2:9-14)

Helps the men of God sent into her town to take it over.

They give her a instructions to save her house and families house when they come back to take over the town.

Hebrews 11:31

“It was by faith that Rahab

The prostitute

Was not destroyed with the people

In her city who refused to obey God.

For she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.”

A prostitute.

Remembered for her faith,

Not her actions.

James 2:25

“And the same is true of the prostitute named Rahab

Who was found righteous in God’s eyes by her works,

For she received the spies into her home

And helped them escape from the city by another route.”

A prostitute.

Found righteous in God’s eyes by her works.

Why does all of this matter?

Rahab is a part of the lineage of Jesus.

He story matters.

She was once far off, but God rewrote her story.

No matter where you are in life,

There is still hope.

God wants to use you.

God wants to include you.

God wants you to be remembered by your faith and your works.

It doesn’t matter what you’ve done.

It doesn’t matter where you’ve been.

It matters what God is still able to do in and through you.

There is no exclusion in the Kingdom of Heaven.

You do need to acknowledge who God is.

Begin to obey his ways.

Have faith that he is who he says he is

And he will do what he says he will do.

Rahab mattered.

You matter.
