Luke 1:26-28

Jan 07, 2022

“In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy,

God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth,

A village in Galilee,

To a virgin named Mary.

She was engaged to be married

To a man named Joseph,

A descendant of King David.

Gabriel appeared to her and said,

“Greetings, favored woman!

The Lord is with you.”

This is the moment Mary finds out

She is going to become pregnant with Jesus.

She is a little freaked out by seeing Gabriel.

Elizabeth had just experienced something similar

And was now walking through her own miracle.

She had become pregnant at an old age

After not being able to become pregnant

For many many years.

She had faith that God would deliver.

Luke 1:30-31

“Don’t be afraid, Mary,”

The angel told her,

“For you have found favor with God!

You will conceive and give birth to a son,

And you will name him Jesus.”

Mary, an ordinary woman.

Set to marry a man who was

A descendant of King David.

Now, being told she will become

Pregnant and carry a king.

Luke 1:33

“And he will reign over Israel forever;

His Kingdom will never end!”

No pressure here Mary.

Christmas time isn’t just a time of gift giving

And celebrating together with family.

This all happening because an angel

Visited a woman.

Because the Holy Spirit came upon this woman.

Because she went through with the pregnancy.

Even after she was shamed by her family.

Elizabeth, Mary’s relative, birthed John the Baptist.

The one who was sent to make away for Jesus.

The one who was filled with the Holy Spirit in the womb.

The one who was carried by an old barren mother.

Luke 1:37

“For the word of God will never fail.”

Hope.

A word that is talked about a lot during Christmas.

But understand why.

Because these two women were examples of unfailing hope.

Their faith was at the highest level.

They believed God at his word.

Has God promised something to you,

But you haven’t seen it yet?

Don’t stop believing.

Trust him at his word.

He is faithful to deliver.

Isaiah 66:9

“Shall I bring to the moment of brith

And not give delivery?”

says the Lord.

“Or shall I who gives delivery shut the womb?”

Says your God.”

If he said it, he will do it.

He keeps his word.

He follows through on his promise.

The Lord is with you.

He has never left you.

Hang on to his word.

Show up for his promise.

Watch him finish his miracle.
